I have two bottles of ink - one I have filled one pen with, the other only dipped. Both have their fans; but neither does it for me. So, if you want a bottle of Iroshizuku Kosumosu (one pen filled) or a bottle of Noodler's St. Patty's Eire (a green highlight ink - only dipped), answer the following question and my favourite answer will win the ink of your choice. Both inks will be prizes.
Here is your question (which must be answered in rhyme):
Celluloid or Ebonite?
Post your answers in the comments section on this blog; all answers will be published unless they breach internet protocols or reasonable politeness.
Competition closes 31 May.
Yours in the fullness of tine,
ECCLECTITBITS
I'd say that celluloid wins the prize: the depth and colors and textures are so easy on the eyes!
ReplyDeleteEbonite or celluloid that is the question
ReplyDeleteSuch is a choice that could lead to indigestion
Love the camphor smell and slightly greasy feel
But adore the warmth in hand that truly is ideal
Celluloid can burn which is a proper scare
Ebonite can fade in the sun so beware
So both I guess--one of each I'll charge it on my card
Give me the damn ink cause poetry is hard.
Oh how hard it is just to pick one...
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll have to go with pretty and fun!
So I'd have to pick the celluloid
But I definitely wouldn't want to avoid
The strong and sturdy ebonite
Which would win in an epic fight?
Nice one. :-)
DeleteGoing to say celluloid because of the colors, plus ebonite feeds drive me nuts.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I can find the rhyme in this one...
DeleteCelluloid or ebonite,
ReplyDeleteNeither wrong or right,
Proclivities and taste,
No time to waste,
There's writing to be done!
I had a great haiku
ReplyDeleteI made up just for you.
And then just in time
I saw it must rhyme,
And so this poem will just have to do.
Celluloid or Ebonite? Oh what a choice…
ReplyDeleteThe colors of celluloid give my pen voice…
But ebonite, oh, it's a lovely material…
Ah, my pick is celluloid, of a shade ethereal.
For my ping pong balls I prefer celluloid. For my bowling balls on the other hand, I prefer ebonite.
ReplyDeleteOk, I missed the rhyme part. :D
DeleteI thought it would be funny to give a non-fountain pen related answer. I didn't know what they would still use celluloid and/or ebonite and I was very surprised to find they use it for ping pong and bowling balls.
Ok, so the rhyme:
Celluloid for Pink Floyd,
3 Doors Down no not Kryptonite, but Ebonite.
Yeah, I really suck at this :D
When presented with the question, "Celluloid or Ebonite",
ReplyDeleteI began to think hard, and try as I might,
I could not come up with a satisfactory answer,
other than some paltry back-and-forth banter.
This question would require a bit of my time,
and on top of that, my answer must rhyme!
So I sat in my armchair, pondering life,
wondering with which writing instrument to write.
Just then, I noticed my dog saunter by,
and decided to let him give the query a try.
I scooped him up quickly and said with a shout,
"Oh Maximus, come, will you please help me out?!"
Two pens I presented him, one of each type,
and asked him to point towards the one that he liked.
Up to his paws, with no hesitation,
my dog pointed straight, without trepidation.
To the ebonite, he pointed, and then looked at me.
"Good job," quoth I, and then smiled with glee.
And this is why, without sorrow or fright,
my answer to you is simply: ebonite.
Sorry, I got this stuck in my head and had to get it out:
ReplyDeleteBridgekeeper: Stop. Who would cross the Bridge of Death must answer me
these questions three,
ere the other side he see.
Sir Roger: Ask me the questions, Bridgekeeper, I have no fright.
Bridgekeeper: Which......do you prefer. Cellluloid or Ebonite?
Sir Roger: Celluloid. No! Ebon....... AUUUUUUUUGGGHHH!

ReplyDeleteEbonite is what's right.
ReplyDeleteI love celluloid because of the beautiful colors and transparency that can be had. No other material (including acrylics) can come close to it with its depth of color especially in the colored pearlescent materials. Some of the colors were spectacular.
ReplyDeleteThe one down side is the price - it costs more than the other materials.
Not sure I can see much rhyme here ?
DeleteI must admit that I'm not sure, if I've tried either one
ReplyDeleteBut one can dream, can't I? For just a chance to try
So here I am, with a shot at lines of rhyming fun
Made up for inks, that I just can't pass by
I think may have seen such pens, out there wild and free
A few clicks of the keys, there is info with little wizardry
From my point of view, though uninformed it may yet be
What I've read has led me to believe, that ebonite is for me
Celluloid or Ebonite, which shall I choose?
ReplyDeleteCelluloid was used by Freud,
Ebonite a favorite of Dolomite,
Harold Lloyd voted for Celluloid,
James Walker thought Ebonite was Dyno-mite!
Each had their choice,
& now I'll add my voice.
Like Pikachu I say, "Celluloid, I choose you!"
Celluloid or Ebonite?
ReplyDeleteOne fills the void.
One's just not write.
Boy! do i remember that night,
ReplyDeleteshe was warm and soft to the touch
nothing could ever compare
for she was made of ebonite.
To e… or not to e…, that is the question.
ReplyDeleteWhen composing my will, I will select the classic ebonite with its dark somber color.
However, my hand will stray over the sparkling sapphire and the glowing topaz gold-nibbed celluloids.
Should I write pragmatically or tongue-in-cheek, I ask my counselor..
My hand hovers. The words are not for a long-winded tome or the gossip-ridden tabloids.
To e… or not to e…, that is the question.
Ebonite
ReplyDeleteIs always right.
Celluloid or Ebonite
ReplyDeleteThe question has been posed
and so I ponder which will be
the best to choose of those.
I think of celluloid and it
reminds me of fat somehow
I think of Ebonite until
it causes a headache now.
I'm still not sure which one to choose
They both entice me, and how.
So I will choose the Ebonite
and cross all my fingers now.
Oh dear, look at the time,
ReplyDeleteI need to respond in the form of a rhyme;
Before the clock strikes midnight,
I must answer Celluloid or Ebonite.
Less of a question and more of a riddle,
One that would make even Calaf piddle.
Both have their pros and cons
Which takes the gold and which the bronze?
How do I choose between the two…
The flip of a coin will have to do.
