Competition: Win INK!
I have two bottles of ink - one I have filled one pen with, the other only dipped. Both have their fans; but neither does it for me. So, if you want a bottle of Iroshizuku Kosumosu (one pen filled) or a bottle of Noodler's St. Patty's Eire (a green highlight ink - only dipped), answer the following question and my favourite answer will win the ink of your choice. Both inks will be prizes.
Here is your question (which must be answered in rhyme):
Celluloid or Ebonite?

I'd say that celluloid wins the prize: the depth and colors and textures are so easy on the eyes!

But adore the warmth in hand that truly is ideal
Celluloid can burn which is a proper scare
Ebonite can fade in the sun so beware

For my ping pong balls I prefer celluloid. For my bowling balls on the other hand, I prefer ebonite.

DeleteI thought it would be funny to give a non-fountain pen related answer. I didn't know what they would still use celluloid and/or ebonite and I was very surprised to find they use it for ping pong and bowling balls.
Ok, so the rhyme:
Celluloid for Pink Floyd,
3 Doors Down no not Kryptonite, but Ebonite.

When presented with the question, "Celluloid or Ebonite",
ReplyDeleteI began to think hard, and try as I might,
I could not come up with a satisfactory answer,
other than some paltry back-and-forth banter.
This question would require a bit of my time,
and on top of that, my answer must rhyme!
So I sat in my armchair, pondering life,
wondering with which writing instrument to write.
Just then, I noticed my dog saunter by,
and decided to let him give the query a try.
I scooped him up quickly and said with a shout,
"Oh Maximus, come, will you please help me out?!"
Two pens I presented him, one of each type,
and asked him to point towards the one that he liked.
Up to his paws, with no hesitation,
my dog pointed straight, without trepidation.
To the ebonite, he pointed, and then looked at me.
"Good job," quoth I, and then smiled with glee.
And this is why, without sorrow or fright,
my answer to you is simply: ebonite.

ReplyDeleteI love celluloid because of the beautiful colors and transparency that can be had. No other material (including acrylics) can come close to it with its depth of color especially in the colored pearlescent materials. Some of the colors were spectacular.

Ebonite a favorite of Dolomite,
Harold Lloyd voted for Celluloid,
James Walker thought Ebonite was Dyno-mite!
Each had their choice,
& now I'll add my voice.

However, my hand will stray over the sparkling sapphire and the glowing topaz gold-nibbed celluloids.
Should I write pragmatically or tongue-in-cheek, I ask my counselor..
